White
Mother of pearl colour is a white background with pearlescense
and gold, especially around the lip of the shell. White
and Gold Mother of pearl originate from both the Phillipines and
Indonesia. Black Mother of pearl colour is a black/grey
background with pearlescense over the entire surface and violet
to green iridescence, especially around the lip of the shell.
Black Mother of Pearl comes from the Phillipines and the best
is from Tahiti.
The
pearl buttons you see below are antique and were made between
1920 and 1950. Many are pre-WWII.
